Whenever possible, include the following in your introductory email:

• your estimated budget

• any hard deadlines

• expected level of editing or copyediting (light, medium, or heavy copyedit) or whether you’re seeking just a straightforward proofreading

• a sample of your manuscript (1–10 pages, preferably submitted as a Word doc, PDF, or shared Google doc)
